Kenyatta University established the City Centre in October 2009 in line with the University's Strategic and Vision Plan and Kenya Vision 2030's goal of enhancing access to University education through expansion of facilities and increasing University presence in various parts of the country.

This development was also in response to a growing demand for Kenyatta University's revolutionary programmes by the clientele working within the city centre and its environs but who could not access these programmes at the main campus.

The Centre was set up to act as a centre for providing cutting-edge training and research in various fields.
The City Centre Campus is located along Haile Sellasie in KU Plaza A and B.
